Morocco 2025: Flamingos Aim For High-margin Win To Secure World Cup Ticket - Olowookere
By Admin
Head Coach Bankole Olowookere announced on Friday that Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, are determined to secure a significant victory in their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup final qualifying round. They will face their Algerian counterparts in the first leg on Saturday to ease the pressure ahead of next week’s return leg in North Africa, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
“We have been working hard to address the issues we observed in our last matches against South Africa, and we believe we are in good form to achieve a solid win here, which will set us up perfectly for the second leg in Algeria,” Olowookere said on thenff.com.
“I always remind the girls that no two matches are the same. Just because we defeated South Africa home and away doesn’t mean we should become complacent in this final round. We need to stay grounded, continue working harder, strengthen our bond, and aim high. Our goal is to secure the FIFA World Cup ticket and represent Nigeria proudly in Morocco.”
The match will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, where the Flamingos recently defeated South Africa’s Bantwana 2-0, following a 3-1 victory in Pretoria.
This is also the venue where the Super Falcons won against their Algerian competitors 2-0 in a friendly last October.
Olowookere plans to field forward Harmony Chidi, who has scored 16 goals in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, including 13 goals en route to the finals in the Dominican Republic last year.
He will also rely on midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who netted four goals at the last FIFA World Cup finals and opened the scoring against South Africa in Pretoria, as well as Aishat Animashaun, who scored against Bantwana last month, to achieve his objective against Algeria.
The return leg is scheduled for the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria, on Friday, April 25th.
This year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals will be held in Morocco from October 17th to November 5th.
