Morocco Captain Hakimi To Contest Rape Allegation In Court

Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco international Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial after being accused of rape, an allegation he has strongly denied, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A 24-year-old woman alleges that the incident took place at the defender’s residence in Paris in 2023. The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a suburb west of the French capital, opened a preliminary investigation into the matter in March 2023.

Hakimi has rejected the accusation and said he intends to clear his name in court.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial,” he wrote in a statement posted on X. “This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

No date has yet been announced for the proceedings.

Despite the ongoing legal case, Hakimi has continued to feature for Paris Saint-Germain F.C.. He was named in the club’s initial squad for their UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off second leg against AS Monaco, scheduled for Wednesday.

The 27-year-old defender, born in Spain and capped internationally by Morocco, has made 194 appearances for PSG. He played a significant role in the club’s UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 successes last season.

Earlier this week, Hakimi was named in the FIFPRO Men’s World Team of the Year at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris, recognition of his performances over the past year.

On the international stage, Hakimi was instrumental in Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Atlas Lions became the first African nation to reach the last four of the tournament.
