Morocco has been awarded the privilege of hosting the next two U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, set for 2025 and 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The first event will take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country's sports calendar.
The announcement came on December 16 during the Executive Committee meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), held in Marrakech on the sidelines of the CAF Awards.
This marks the second time in recent years that Morocco has been entrusted with hosting a major continental football tournament, underscoring the country’s growing influence in African football.
Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, Angola, Zambia and Mali are countries that have already qualified for the CAF U17 African Nations Cup.
Meanwhile, CECAFA and UNIFFAC still need to play their qualifiers to present other four teams to complete the 12 countries that will partake in the championship. 10 out of the 12 participants are expected to pick the FIFA U17 World Cup tickets as the CAF U17 AFCON serves as world cup qualifiers. FIFA has increased the African slots for the U17 world cup to 10.
