Morocco Makes African Football History With Referee Bodycam Introduction

Morocco has once again positioned itself at the forefront of football innovation in Africa after becoming the first African country to introduce referee bodycams in domestic football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed that referee bodycams will be tested during the Botola Pro clash involving the Casablanca Derby in what has been described as a pilot phase for the technology.

The initiative is part of Morocco’s broader drive to modernise football officiating and improve transparency in the game.

In another major development, the FRMF also announced plans to introduce Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) in Moroccan football in the near future. 

The federation further revealed that a new centralised VAR control room is being developed to monitor multiple matches simultaneously.

Morocco previously became the first African country to implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology and is now set to break new ground again with the referee bodycam experiment.

Should the SAOT project be fully implemented, Morocco could also become the first African nation to deploy the technology in domestic football competitions.

The latest move further underlines Morocco’s growing reputation as a leader in football development and technological innovation on the African continent.
