Morocco Opens Negotiations With Xavi To Take Over From Regragui

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation under the leadership of Fouzi Lekjaa has commenced negotiations with former FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández to take over from Walid Regragui as head coach of the Atlas Lions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Moroccan FA and Regragui agreed to part ways last week following the team’s failure to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil.

Expectations were high for the Atlas Lions, but they fell short of delivering the continental crown.

Sources close to the federation indicate that discussions with Xavi are progressing, with the former Spanish international seen as a strong candidate to usher in a new era for the North African side.

If an agreement is reached, Xavi is expected to lead Morocco to the next FIFA World Cup in the summer, as the federation aims to build on the country’s recent rise in global football and maintain its competitive edge on the international stage.
