Morocco Set To Host La Liga Matches

Plans are underway for Spanish top-flight league, La Liga, to stage official matches in Morocco as part of its ongoing global expansion strategy, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The proposal, which is gaining momentum, is driven by the league’s growing popularity across North Africa, particularly in Morocco, where a significant fan base continues to follow Spanish football closely.

Speaking on the development, league officials highlighted Morocco as a viable destination due to its proximity to Spain and the relatively minimal logistical challenges involved in organizing such fixtures.

 The country’s modern sporting infrastructure has also been identified as a key factor, with the newly developed stadium in Casablanca emerging as a potential venue.

“It is entirely possible to host a La Liga match in Morocco,” a league representative stated. 

“Considering the large number of supporters in the country, it would be easier to stage games there. 

The travel logistics are manageable, and facilities are in place to support such an event.”

The move forms part of La Liga’s broader push into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where football viewership continues to grow rapidly.

 According to league data, La Liga boasts a substantial following in the region, with figures believed to rival and in some cases surpass those of the English Premier League.

If finalized, Morocco would become one of the few countries outside Spain to host an official La Liga fixture, marking a significant milestone in the league’s internationalization efforts.
