Morocco is seriously considering submitting a bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), in what is being viewed as a strategic move ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the Kingdom will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The proposed AFCON bid is seen as an opportunity for Morocco to further test its infrastructure, logistics, and organizational capacity on a continental scale before taking on the global challenge of staging the World Cup.

Morocco has already established itself as one of Africa’s leading hosts of major sporting events, with modern stadiums, efficient transport networks, and a strong track record in hosting CAF and FIFA competitions.

If the bid is formally submitted and approved, the 2028 AFCON would serve as a rehearsal for crowd management, security arrangements, and operational coordination ahead of the historic 2030 tournament.

The North African nation is currently hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and has since invested heavily in sports infrastructure as part of its long-term development and global sporting ambitions.
