Motsepe Confirms Increase In Prize Money For Inter-Club Competitions

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has confirmed a major increase in prize money for Africa’s top club competitions, in what is seen as a significant boost for club football across the continent, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Under the new structure, the winner of the CAF Champions League for the 2025/26 season will receive $6 million, representing a 50 percent increase from the previous prize money.

Similarly, the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup will earn $4 million, which is a 100 percent increase compared to the previous amount.

Since Motsepe assumed office as CAF President in 2021, prize money in the competitions has risen significantly. 

The Champions League winner’s reward has increased from $2.5 million to $6 million, a rise of about 140 percent. 

The Confederation Cup prize has also jumped from $1.25 million to $4 million, marking an increase of roughly 220 percent.

CAF also confirmed that it will distribute over $42 million per season to participating clubs across its competitions. 

In addition, teams eliminated in the preliminary rounds will now receive $100,000 solidarity payments, aimed at supporting clubs and improving competitiveness across African football.

The increased financial incentives are part of CAF’s broader strategy to strengthen club football, improve competitiveness, and provide greater financial stability for teams across the continent.
