Mozambique Releases AFCON List Featuring 42-Year-Old Domingues and Nine Debutants
By Our Reporter
Mozambique head coach Chiquinho Conde has unveiled his final 25-man squad for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, with veteran midfielder Domingues earning a surprise recall at the age of 42, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Mambas, set for their sixth AFCON appearance, will be aiming to advance past the group stage for the first time in their history. Conde’s squad blends experience with emerging talent, featuring 16 players who participated in the previous edition in Côte d'Ivoire.
Newcomers to the continental finals include goalkeeper Kimiss Zavala; defenders Óscar Cherene, Diogo Calila and Chamboco; midfielders Kambala and Kenys Abdala; and forwards Melque, Faisal Bangal and Chamito — all of whom are set for their AFCON debuts.
Domingues, one of Mozambique’s most iconic players, could become the second-oldest footballer to feature at an AFCON finals match, behind Egypt’s Essam El Hadary, who played at 44 years and 21 days in 2017.
The squad’s experienced core includes defenders Mexer, Reinildo, Bruno Langa and Edmilson Dove; midfielders Guima, Alfons Amade and João Bonde; and forwards Ratifo, Gildo, Geny Catamo and Witi.
Mozambique have intensified preparations ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco.
