Musa Kida Refutes Third-Term Rumours, Silent on NBBF Election Schedule
By Niyi Busari
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Musa Kida, has dismissed reports suggesting he is pursuing a third term in office, insisting that such claims are unfounded, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In an interview with BSN Sports at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) headquarters in Abuja, Kida distanced himself from the speculation, challenging those spreading the rumour to provide evidence.
“Who told you I am going for a third term?” he asked rhetorically. “Ask those people you heard from that I want to contest for the NBBF presidency for the third term, not me, because I have never said that.”
When pressed about the date for the next NBBF elections, Kida stated that the elections would take place only after the current board’s tenure expires but declined to specify whether that would be in January or October 2026. "The election will hold when the tenure of the present board expires," he said.
Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida was re-elected as NBBF President on January 31, 2022, during the federation’s elective congress held at the Royal Marble Hotel, Benin City, Edo State. He secured a unanimous return with 37 votes.
The congress, observed by a delegation from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) led by Mr. Ahmed Elhariri, President of FIBA Zone 5 (North Africa) and member of the FIBA Africa Central Board, was formally declared open by the then Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, represented by Mrs. Sabina Amiemenoghena Chikere, General Coordinator of Sports in the Deputy Governor’s office.
