President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has handsomely rewarded Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In recognition of their outstanding achievement, President Tinubu announced a $100,000 (equivalent to N153 million) cash reward for each player and $50,000 for each member of the technical crew. Additionally, every team member — players and staff — will be conferred with National Honours as Members of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The president also pledged a new apartment for each player and staff member, a gesture aimed at celebrating their excellence and commitment on the continental stage.
D’Tigress secured their seventh overall Afrobasket title with a 78–64 victory over Mali in the final of the 2025 tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire. The team remains undefeated in Afrobasket finals, further cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s basketball team.
The announcement reflects a broader push by the Tinubu administration to support and elevate Nigerian sports, especially women's achievements in recent continental competitions.
