NBA Giant, Sacramento Kings Hires Nigeria National Team Coach

The Sacramento Kings have hired Mike Brown on a four-year contract to become the franchise’s next coach, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 52-year-old who is the associate head coach for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the head coach of the Nigerian Basketball National Team will be the head coach of the Sacramento Kings following the conclusion of the 2021-22 NBA season.

Sacramento fired Luke Walton in November and promoted Gentry, who had been the associate head coach.

While Walton’s ouster was well-earned, the Kings didn’t fare much better under Gentry’s stewardship. They had a 6-11 record (.353) at the time of the coaching change and finished with a 24-41 (.369) mark the res of the way

Brown is best known for his first five-year stint as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. There, he reached the 2007 NBA Finals alongside LeBron James, but the Cavaliers never made it back there under his watch. He was fired after the 2009-10 season in the hopes that a new coach might help convince James to stay with the Cavaliers. He ultimately left, but returned in 2014.
