NBA Star Ready To Dump USA, For Nigeria

NBA star Desmond Bane has declared his readiness to switch international allegiance from the United States to Nigeria ahead of future global competitions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Bane, who is officially listed as an American player in the NBA, is of Nigerian heritage and is yet to represent any country at senior international level. 

The Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard has now openly expressed interest in committing his international future to Nigeria if the opportunity arises.

“I would for sure,” Bane said when asked about the possibility of answering Nigeria’s call-up.

Nigeria already boasts NBA talents such as Josh Okogie of the Houston Rockets, who was born in Lagos before relocating to the United States and has gone on to represent D’Tigers at international tournaments.

Bane revealed that discussions about playing for Nigeria have also taken place among several NBA players of Nigerian descent, highlighting growing interest in strengthening the national team.

“I’d talk to Aaron Nesmith (Indiana Pacers),” the 27-year-old told BBC Sport. “Me and Gabe Vincent (Los Angeles Lakers) also talked about it a little bit. We need to do it.”

With Nigeria continuing to attract top diaspora talents, Bane’s comments are expected to further boost hopes of assembling a formidable squad for future continental and global basketball competitions.
