NBBF Announces May 16 Tip-Off for Men’s Premier Basketball League

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced May 16, 2026, as the new commencement date for the 2026 Nigeria Men’s Premier Basketball League season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The federation shifted the opening date from the previously scheduled May 12 following the approval of additional teams by the League Management Committee (LMC).
In a statement signed by the NBBF Secretary, Mrs. Amina Amanchi, the federation confirmed that the country’s top-flight men’s basketball league will feature 20 teams divided into two conferences — Atlantic and Savannah.
The statement also disclosed that domestic player transfers for league teams will attract a fee of N150,000, with proceeds to be shared between the releasing club and the NBBF.
Teams competing in the Savannah Conference include Nigeria Customs Basketball Club, Nile University Basketball Club, Kano Pillars Basketball Club, Bauchi Nets Basketball Club, Plateau Peaks Basketball Club, Gboko City Chiefs Basketball Club, Gombe Bulls Basketball Club, Niger Potters Basketball Club, 313 Warriors Basketball Club and Aso Sky Hawks Basketball Club.
The Atlantic Conference will feature Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club, Maktown Flyers Basketball Club, Comets Basketball Club, Hoops and Reads Basketball Club, Kwara Falcons Basketball Club, Athletes For Peace Basketball Club, Edo Beads Basketball Club, Raptors Basketball Club, Coal City Blazers Basketball Club and Confluence Kings Basketball Club.
The 2026 season is expected to showcase some of the country’s top basketball talents as teams compete for national honours across both conferences.
