NFF, Ogun State Signs Partnership For Football Events

Ogun State, known as the Gateway State, has officially become a strategic partner with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to organise events, programs, and activities that will enhance the country’s football economy, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This collaboration aims to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's New Hope agenda by creating a vibrant sports economy.

The partnership was established in Abeokuta on Sunday, following a courtesy visit from NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and his delegation to Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Ogun State is recognised for its tranquil environment and impressive sports and social infrastructure.

Over the years, it has hosted various matches for national teams and major tournaments, including the FIFA U17 World Cup finals in 2009.

Additionally, the state has been a venue for matches in the Confederation of African Football club competitions.

Recently, the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, built by billionaire football investor and philanthropist Hon. Kunle Soname, has hosted the senior women's national team, the Super Falcons, as well as the U17 girls, the Flamingos.

With the 2025 National Sports Festival approaching, which Ogun State will host, Gusau led his delegation to inform Governor Abiodun that, due to Ogun's growing significance in sports and culture at the Nigerian, African, and global levels, the NFF has decided to host friendly matches for the Super Falcons against their Cameroonian counterparts, the Indomitable Lionesses.

The first match is scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on Saturday, May 31, while the second match will be held at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta on Tuesday, June 3.

Furthermore, Ogun State has been awarded the hosting rights for the WAFU B U17 Boys Championship, which Nigeria will host in September this year.

Gusau’s delegation included the NFF's 2nd Vice President and Chairman of NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, as well as NFF Executive Committee members Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, His Excellency Silas Agara, and Ms. Aisha Falode.
