NFF Approves Statute Amendment, Confirms Date And Venue For 2026 Elective Congress

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved a series of significant amendments to its governing statutes and electoral framework, and scheduled its next elective congress for September 26, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The resolutions were adopted during an Extraordinary General Assembly held on Monday at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The federation stated that the Congress unanimously endorsed revisions to the NFF Statutes (March 2026 Edition), the Electoral Code, and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly.

As part of preparations for the 2026 elections, the Congress also ratified the composition of the NFF Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee. The 12-member bodies, drawn from the country’s six geopolitical zones, are scheduled for inauguration on March 25 in Abuja.

On financial governance, the assembly confirmed the appointment of Ernst & Young as the federation’s independent auditor for a four-year term. According to the communiqué, the firm emerged after a competitive selection process involving seven audit companies.

The Congress further approved Lafia, in Nasarawa State, as the host city for the 2026 elective congress.

Delegates passed a vote of confidence in the NFF Executive Committee led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, commending its efforts in advancing football development across Nigeria.

The meeting also paid tribute to late football figures, including former NFF Technical Director and ex-Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, and former national team captain Henry Nwosu, observing a minute of silence in their honour.

In addition, the Congress lauded President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support for sports development, highlighting financial incentives for national team players and funding for international competitions.

The Bayelsa State Government was also commended for hosting the assembly, with delegates acknowledging its hospitality. Representatives from FIFA and CAF were in attendance at the meeting.
