NFF Awaits FIFA Verdict On South Africa Hopeful Of Super Eagles' Qualification

 The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) remains hopeful about the country’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite a recent setback in the qualifiers. After a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali, the Super Eagles stumbled to a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in Uyo, leaving their qualification hopes in jeopardy. With South Africa leading Group C with 13 points, Nigeria currently sits fourth with just seven points, trailing Rwanda and Benin Republic.

Reports surfaced has it that the NFF held a meeting with Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, to strategize on reviving Nigeria’s campaign. However, NFF’s top official stated that he was unaware of such a meeting, though he confirmed that the federation is monitoring FIFA’s response to Lesotho’s protest against South Africa for fielding an ineligible player.

To qualify, Nigeria must at least secure second place in Group C with a strong points tally, which could earn them a playoff spot. The next qualifiers in September will be crucial, with Nigeria set to host Rwanda before facing South Africa in Johannesburg. The NFF is also considering squad changes, as concerns have been raised over some players' performances.
