NFF Dismisses Reports of Coaching Shake-Up Involving Eguavoen and Bosso

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted circulating reports suggesting that it is set to replace current Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, with Austin Eguavoen and Ladan Bosso as head and assistant coaches respectively, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking to BSN Sports on Wednesday, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, categorically denied the claims, describing the report as “entirely false.

“It’s a lie. There is nothing like that,” Sanusi said. “As far as I know, the NFF has not discussed anything of the sort. Neither the Technical Committee nor the Technical Department has brought up such an idea. I don’t know where this fake news is coming from.”

Echoing the NFF’s stance, Ladan Bosso, the former Flying Eagles coach and current head of Barau FC, also distanced himself from the rumoured appointment. He confirmed to BSN Sports that he had not been contacted by the federation and was unaware of any such plans.

“No, no one has contacted me about the Super Eagles job,” Bosso said. “I’m hearing this from you for the first time. If anything like that were to happen, I believe I would have been approached.”

Eric Chelle, who was appointed earlier this year, is currently leading Nigeria’s charge in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles face Lesotho in an away fixture in Polokwane, South Africa on Friday, followed by their final Group C match against Benin Republic in Uyo.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 11 points from eight matches, trailing Benin Republic and South Africa, both on 14 points.
