NFF Elections: Akpoborire Vows To Bring Transparency Into Nigerian Football If Elected
Sampson Adedeji
Ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elections, Presidential aspirant Jonathan Akpoborire has vowed to bring total transparency into Nigeria's football if is elected, BSNsports.com.ng reports.
The tenure of the current NFF executive will terminate in September 2022 and many aspirants including ex-internationals are already eyeing the position of President.
Former Super Eagles striker Akpoborire is one of the ex-players that has shown interest in the position.
While speaking on radio on Tuesday, former VFB Stuttgart striker said it's through transparency Nigerian football can be taken to the next level.
"Football in Nigeria needs to be transparent for everyone to see.
"FIFA gave us a grants to develop our football in the last decade and to be honest with you, I have not seen any money spent to actually develop football at the grassroots level, so that is questionable.
"That's why I said football is governed by the International rules but with what we are doing now we have our own local and when there is a problem they keep saying we want to go back to FIFA, but it doesn't work that way.
"If you are not transparent the private company will not come to sponsor and will not invest in the game.
"There is nobody in the realm of football that is comfortable with that pattern
"I saw what the ex-players are trying to do, it's commendable but what I'm trying to do is not for an individual but Nigeria," he said.
