NFF Leaves Peseiro's Fate To Nigerian Fans Via Public Forum

The incumbent President of the Nigeria Football Federation - Ibrahim Musa Gusau has stated that the fate of the current Head Coach of the Super Eagles - Jose Peseiro will depend on the public opinion of fans, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The statement by the President was made on a LIVE podcast, broadcasted via the Gbamm! LovingFootballTM Show on Friday morning, when asked about the head coach's contract which expires at month end.

Recall that Peseiro was appointed to the team in May 2022, making him 11+ months old on the job, a tenure that has seen the Portuguese gaffer manage 9 games with the Super Eagles, winning 4 and losing 5 of those.

Ibrahim Gusau stated the Federation's plans to resolve the contract quagmire after Peseiro led the team to AFCON qualification with a game to spare; fulfilling a part of the clause in his contract - Qualify for the AFCON, and win the title.

"We have a plan to push it to the forum, to make sure that Nigerians air their views," Gusau stated on the Sports show.

"Because we tried the foreign coaches and the local coaches, and it feels like we still have problems. So maybe we did not get it right in terms of personnel.

"But we will push the decision to the public to hear their views on the fate of Jose Peseiro if he leaves or stays on the job."

Ibrahim Gusau was also quizzed on the possibility of recruiting indigenous coaches for the next appointment or going for foreign-based.

"Regarding the question of going for an indigenous coach, that will be pushed to the public space as well, to determine if we stick we our Nigerian coaches or still go for the foreign ones.

"Then we will collate the responses and do our part as a board, before coming out with a decision." 

Reports making the rounds lately have purported the likes of NPL's reigning champions - Enyimba's head coach, Finidi Goerge, or former Tanzania coach Emmanuel Amunike as the indigenous choices.

With Austin Eguavoen, Sunday Olise, and a few other FIFA-licensed coaches within the country, on the provisional list of options.
