A top official of the Ministry of Sports has alleged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is not willing to neither amend its statute nor hold elections scheduled for September this year, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The top official who pleaded for anonymity told BSN Sports on Tuesday that the NFF should have no excuse again not to hold elections this year after the court exparte order stopping them from holding Congress be withdrawn.
On Monday, the Ministry of Sports met with the Concerned State Football Association chairmen and the Players' Union to withdraw the case so that the NFF will be able to hold Congress and set up modalities for September elections.
However, the Ministry official they stepped in because they are aware that the Nigeria football governing body is not willing to hold elections this year.
"We need to come into this matter so that the NFF will be able to hold elections in September. They said that the court exparte order stopped them from holding Congress. And without Congress there wont be elections. And now that the order will be withdrawn, I hope there wont be any other excuse again than to begin preparation for the elections.
President, Muhammadu Buhari in his letter to Pinnick (NFF President) directed that necessary electoral processes commence on time so that the September elections be held. President also ordered that the statute be amended to include other concerned stakeholders.
