The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Akeem Busari as the new head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Busari takes over from Bankole Olowookere, who previously led the team and oversaw a period of notable progress for the young side.

Before his appointment, Busari served as head coach of Pacesetters Queens, where he gained recognition for developing young talents and promoting competitive football at the domestic level.

The appointment is part of the federation’s broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s women’s football structure, particularly at the youth level, as the country prepares for upcoming continental and global competitions.

Busari is expected to immediately begin preparations for forthcoming qualifying fixtures, including the next cycle of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and African qualifiers, where Nigeria has historically been a strong contender.

Sources within the federation indicate that talent identification and grassroots development will be central to his mandate, with nationwide scouting programs expected to be intensified in the coming months.

The NFF is also reportedly working to enhance technical support for youth teams, including improved training camps, exposure matches, and better welfare packages for players, in a bid to sustain Nigeria’s competitiveness in women’s football.

Busari’s appointment has generated interest among stakeholders, with expectations that his experience at the club level will translate into continued success for the Flamingos on the international stage.
