NFF Sacks NWFL Board?
By Niyi Busari
The board of Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) might have been dissolved when the league resumes from two-week break, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The NWFL board last week announced two weeks break to mark the end of first stanza of the league. However, there would have been a major shake up in the Board by the time the 2024/25 NWFL resumes in March, 2025.
In a deliberate effort to continue projection of women's league positively, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of Ibrahim Gusau inaugurated Board members of all National Leagues on a two-year tenure.
In 2023, Nkechi Obi was appointed as Chairperson NWFL alongside, Hajia Husseina Suleiman (Vice Chairperson), Hajia Rukaya Alaya, Dammy Nazal, Ayodele Thomas and Ms Henrietta Ehiabor as members. Ever since inauguration, despite so much promises to improve the league, no positive development was recorded under this board. Despite other League Bodies securing multimillion naira sponsorship deal, the NWFL cannot boast of One Million naira sponsorship or partnership deal in two years.
Recently, the NFF has been the one responsible for the payment of match officials and other expenses to disallow the league from being discontinued till the end of the first stanza.
Recall that, last season, the League went on one month break due to lack of funds. Following lack of ability to manage the league, the federation may not allow Nkechi Obi led board continue when the league resumes this March. Plans are already on ground to stop the board from leading the toll end of the ongoing season.
