NFF Steps Down Imo Referee Over Poor Officiating In NWFL

The Nigeria Football Federation has stepped down Umeh Kingsley Chidiebere from the Imo State Referees Council over his poor handling of an NWFL encounter, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chidiebere, who was the centre referee in the NWFL clash between Ibom Angels FC and Naija Ratels was stepped down from league and any other matches by the NFF Refereeing Development for adversely affecting the outcome of the game.

This was contained in a statement by the Chairman of the NFF Refereeing Development Committee, Mohammed Ameenu.

 "Reference to your decisions that adversely affect not only the outcome of the match between Ibom Angels FC and Naija Ratels FC played in Uyo on Wednesday, 9th April 2025, wherein you awarded an unjustified penalty that was not in line with the provisions of the Laws of the Game.

"Your actions did not only negatively affect the outcome of the match but equally bring the game to disrepute. I am, therefore, directed to notify you that you have been stepped down indefinitely and with immediate effect from all league and other matches."
