The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to convene a crucial meeting with Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle as part of efforts to consolidate the national team’s recent gains, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

At the heart of the discussions will be an evaluation of Chelle’s backroom staff, particularly the roles of his Nigerian assistants, Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu. The pair currently serve as domestic aides to the Franco-Malian tactician but have faced criticism in some quarters over their perceived impact on the technical setup.

Observers suggest Chelle has leaned heavily on his trusted foreign assistants, raising questions about the level of synergy within the coaching team. According to reports, the Technical Committee intends to hold a candid discussion with the head coach to assess whether adjustments are necessary to better align the technical crew with his tactical philosophy.

Despite the scrutiny surrounding his backroom staff, Chelle’s own position remains secure. Following Nigeria’s bronze-medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the NFF is understood to be keen on maintaining stability ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Chelle has one year remaining on his current contract, and preliminary talks over a possible extension have reportedly commenced.

In a parallel development, the NFF has announced vacancies across several of the country’s youth and women’s national teams. Applications have been opened for head coaching roles with the U-23 men’s team (Olympic Eagles), U-20 men’s team (Flying Eagles), U-17 men’s team (Golden Eaglets), and the U-17 women’s team (Flamingos).

The Technical Committee has set a one-week deadline for submissions, after which shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews as part of what the federation describes as a transparent selection process aimed at appointing the most qualified candidates.

The openings follow the conclusion of recent tournament cycles and subsequent managerial changes. The U-23 side was previously handled by Salisu Yusuf, while the Flying Eagles were led by Aliyu Zubairu, who has since taken up a role with Telecom Egypt SC. The Golden Eaglets were managed by Manu Garba, and the Flamingos by Bankole Olowookere.

There is also speculation that Ogunmodede could emerge as a candidate for the Flying Eagles position, potentially stepping away from his dual responsibilities with the senior national team in pursuit of a new challenge.
