NFF To Convene Extraordinary Congress for Statute Reforms

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has confirmed that the federation will soon convene a General Assembly to consider amendments to its governing statutes, a move aimed at modernising the administrative framework of Nigerian football.

The current NFF statutes, which govern the structure, membership, and operational procedures of the federation, have not been amended since 2010. According to Gusau, the decision to initiate the reform process follows years of internal and external calls for improved governance within the federation. “We have started the process of amending our statutes. It’s a process; it’s not something that happens overnight,” Gusau said.

The NFF president revealed that initial consultations with FIFA officials have already taken place, including a seminar held recently to identify key areas that could be revised.

“We had a seminar with FIFA representatives about two days ago, where we identified areas that could be amended. Of course, there are areas of governance and ethics that FIFA will not allow anyone to alter because of their importance to football administration,” he explained.

While acknowledging that certain core elements of the statutes particularly those relating to governance and ethics, are protected by FIFA regulations, Gusau expressed confidence in the ongoing dialogue with football’s global governing body.

“We had a very good conversation, and the process is ongoing. By the grace of God, we will call for an extraordinary Congress where we will look at the document holistically and make the necessary amendments.”

Though a specific date has not yet been announced, Gusau confirmed that the extraordinary General Assembly will be convened in the coming months.
