By Admin

The Nationwide League One (NLO), the statutory body incharge of Nigeria's grassroot football, held an intensive professional development training for its staff, in a 3-day retreat at the Sentinel Apartments and Suites in the nation's capital, Abuja.

The participants of the retreat were drawn from key departments in the NLO Secretariat, as it counts down to its 2025/26 football calendar.

Fixture planning and confirmation stage was a core highlight, for participants, as they are to confirm the release and finalize the fixture list, and check dates, kick-off times, venues, and home/away status while checking for conflicts (international windows, weather-prone periods, or double-headers).

NLO representatives are verify that both clubs accept the fixture and notify of any venue changes. Monitor Club Licensing status, initial venue suitability; any broadcasting/sponsorship commitments.

Venue and Infrastructure Approval has to be inbetween 4-2 weeks before; ongoing inspections. As such an NLO Rep must verify that the home club’s stadium meets league standards, including pitch quality, drainage, floodlights, safety barriers, dressing rooms, scoreboards, ticket systems, and media facilities.

Only approved stadium by NFF will be used for matches, as over 80% of matches will be live streamed, and real commercialization will br activated. (Zkyte Technology) is perfecting that as a test run will be done in the first week of match.

NLO officials are to confirm the appointment of match officials (Referee, Assistants, Fourth Official.) per league protocols; and also confirm reserve officials. Club must also have registered required personnel: at least two (2) Coaches, Team Manager, Media Officer, Medical Officer/Doctor.

For Compliance, Registration and Logistics Stage, which must be 1-2 weeks before, its

required clubs submit squad lists, player registrations/eligibility (e.g., maximum/minimum players, transfer windows), kit approvals (colors, sponsorship compliance), and any loan/temporary registrations.

The NLO rep must coordinate security plans (police, stewards, risk assessment for high-risk matches), medical services (ambulance, on-site doctors, emergency equipment), and anti-doping testing arrangements.

Oversee ticketing (sales monitoring, capacity controls), broadcasting/media setups (camera positions, commentator booths), and team logistics (travel/accommodation if away).

For the Final Pre-Match Inspections and Briefings Stage, the rep must conduct or oversee final venue walkthrough: pitch inspection (playability, markings, goals/nets), facilities (dressing rooms, medical centre, floodlights test if applicable), safety equipment, and signage.

Hold pre-match coordination meetings (with clubs, officials, security, medical teams,

broadcasters) to review protocols, kick-off timing, team marches/flags/anthems, and emergency procedures.

He or She must make a confirmation of an ambulance/medical bag presence, steward briefings, ticket scanners/payment devices charged, cash handling if applicable, and crowd estimates; address last-minute issues (e.g., player injuries affecting eligibility).

And finally, for Match Day Real-Time Monitoring and Oversight (Arrival to Kick-Off & During Early Play), the NLO rep must verify team arrivals (timely, correct kits/squad verification), officials' briefing, warm-up areas, and pre-match protocols (handshakes, line-ups submission, coin toss).

Oversee (or delegate to Match Commissioner/Director) safety/security, crowd management, start on time (critical; typically 5-6 hours early arrival at venue for checks), and incident logging.

For live compliance, no unauthorized personnel must be on bench, anti-doping readiness), broadcasting quality, and any disruptions; ensure match report starts are being prepared.
