Abakaliki FC have suspended their head coach, Ifeanyi Onyedika, indefinitely following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Calabar Rovers in their opening fixture of the Nigeria National League season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Club chairman, Senator Obinna Ogba, announced the decision after the match, expressing frustration over what he described as a continued streak of poor performances.

Abakaliki FC opened scoring immediately after the restart in the second half, but Rovers struck back to level the game an outcome that reportedly infuriated the club’s hierarchy.

Ogba stated that he has lost confidence in Onyedika’s tactical approach and ability to motivate the squad, confirming that assistant coach Starplus Anista will take charge on an interim basis.

He also highlighted that the team has been in intensive training for more than three months but has shown little progress, including failure to advance in a recent preparatory tournament held in Shagamu.

The chairman issued a stern warning that the club will no longer tolerate poor results, insisting on an urgent turnaround in performance.

“We are determined to ensure Abakaliki FC competes better in the coming fixtures. The management will do everything possible to achieve improved results,” Ogba said.
