Sunshine Stars are set to make an emotional return to the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure for the 2025–26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season after spending two years away from their traditional home ground, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Owena Waves last played at the iconic venue in 2023 before vacating it to allow for major renovation works aimed at upgrading the facility to modern football standards.

With the refurbishment now completed, the Akure faithful will once again have the chance to witness their team play on home soil, bringing back a long-awaited atmosphere and energy that had been missing over the past two seasons.

Sunshine Stars are scheduled to host Gateway United in an NNL matchday two fixture on Saturday—marking their official return to the ground.

During their time away, the team adopted the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode and the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne as temporary home venues while competing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last season.

The return to Akure is expected to boost morale, attract stronger fan support, and enhance the club’s push for promotion back to top flight
