NNL Suspends Mighty Jets GM Over Inciting Remarks Ahead of Lobi Stars Clash
By BSN Sports
The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria National League (NNL) has suspended the General Manager of Mighty Jets FC, Ferdinand Mbum, for one home match following comments deemed capable of inciting hostility against match officials, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The ruling came after Mighty Jets’ Matchday 12 fixture against Lobi Stars FC at the Zaria Road Stadium in Jos.
Although Lobi Stars suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat in the encounter, the club has drawn some consolation from the disciplinary action taken by the league over the conduct of the Mighty Jets official.
According to reports from the pre-match meeting held before the fixture, Mbum allegedly made statements suggesting that his team must win the match and claimed that referees who previously officiated games in Jos had cheated visiting teams without facing consequences.
The remarks reportedly raised concerns among league officials over the potential intimidation of referees and the integrity of match officiating.
In its verdict, the NNL Disciplinary Committee described the comments as capable of inciting tension and undermining the independence and safety of match officials.
As a result, Mbum has been handed a one-home-match suspension and issued a stern warning by the league authorities.
The NNL reiterated its commitment to protecting match officials and maintaining discipline among club administrators, warning that further violations of the league’s code of conduct could attract stiffer sanctions.
The development comes as the league continues efforts to strengthen professionalism and enforce stricter standards of conduct across clubs competing in Nigeria’s second-tier football competition.
