NOC, NSSF Train Over 100 Teachers, Sports Officers on Olympic Values

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) have commenced a nationwide capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening grassroots sports development through Olympic Values Education, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The initiative, organised under the auspices of Olympic Solidarity, officially began in Kano State on May 11, 2026, bringing together teachers and sports officers for specialised training using the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) toolkit.

Developed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the OVEP framework is designed to promote the core Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect both in classrooms and on the field of play.

More than 100 teachers and sports officers from across Kano State participated in the seminar, which concluded successfully on Wednesday.

Leading the team of facilitators was renowned IOC-certified expert, Prof. Abiodun Moronfolu, who guided participants through various aspects of values-based sports education and youth development.

The Kano seminar marks the first phase of a three-part national training series aimed at transforming school sports administration and development across Nigeria.

Speaking on the programme schedule, NSSF President, Mrs. Olabisi Joseph, disclosed that the next seminar will take place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from May 18 to May 20, while the final phase is scheduled for Lagos from June 2 to June 4, 2026.

She emphasised the importance of schools as the foundation of grassroots sports development and a critical pathway to elite sports performance.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Assistant Secretary of the NOC in charge of NSSF affairs.

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, joined Mrs. Joseph and other invited officials at the official opening ceremony of the programme.
