Gumel Commends Omidiran’s Appointment as FCC Chair
President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, has congratulated Chief Ayo Omidiran on her appointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Chief Omidiran was sworn into office on Thursday, January 22, 2026, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, marking a new chapter in her long record of public service and sports administration.
In a statement, Gumel described the appointment as well-deserved, praising Omidiran’s decades-long contribution to the development of Nigerian sports. A respected figure within the sporting community, she has held several strategic leadership positions, including serving on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board and chairing the NFF Women’s Football Committee.
Beyond administrative roles, Omidiran has remained deeply committed to grassroots development as the proprietor of a women’s football club, investing consistently in nurturing young talent and advancing women’s participation in sports.
At 62, Gumel noted that her wealth of experience, administrative expertise, and leadership acumen make her well suited for the responsibilities of leading the Federal Character Commission, an agency tasked with promoting equity, fairness, and inclusiveness in national governance.
He added that her elevation to a key federal position reflects the depth of leadership capacity within the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the broader sports sector.
According to Gumel, the sporting community shares in the pride of seeing one of its own entrusted with such a significant national responsibility.
He wished Chief Omidiran a successful tenure, expressing confidence in her ability to deliver meaningful progress in her new role.
