NPFL: "We Paid For The Own-goal" - Nasarawa United Coach

Nasarawa United head coach, Salisu Yusuf, has reflected on his team’s narrow defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin, admitting that they effectively scored against themselves, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Despite the setback, Yusuf praised his players for their performance, noting that this was his first loss since taking charge of the Solid Miners.

“We played well and handled their strengths effectively, but we lost focus at a crucial moment,” Yusuf told the club’s media team.

“The goal came from our own mistake when we lost possession in the middle of the field. It required intelligence and composure to react properly in that situation, but unfortunately, our defender's attempt to clear the ball led to the goal.”

He expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall display, stating, “The boys played well and gave the opponents a tough match. We should have won this game.”

“This is my first defeat since taking charge of the team. I’ve been working with the available players to navigate the remaining games, and I see great potential in them.”

Yusuf, however, remains optimistic, adding, “We are choosing to focus on the positives from this game. This is an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger in our next two home fixtures.”
