NPFL: Bayelsa United Confirm Attack On Match Officials

Former Aiteo Cup winners, Bayelsa United have confirmed attack on referees that officiated their Nigeria Professional Football League Match-day 5 tie against Doma United, BSNSports com.ng can report..

Bayelsa United struggled to earn a 1-1 draw in the match as they came back from 0-1 down to pull one point. 

The Yenogoa based team in a statement distanced itself from the attack on the referee saying that the 'hoodlum' has been arrested by the police.

The statement reads, "The hoodlum who attacked a match official on match day five of the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa has been arrested by the police.

It added, "The hoodlum, Joseph Odede popularly known as One Man Riot was apprehended by the police immediately after the match and he is currently in police custody following the ungodly act by the tout who is known in Nigeria for such behavior.

"The Tout attacked the match official outside the stadium. He has no connection with Bayelsa United fans are known for peaceful conduct all over Nigeria. Further punishment on the brigand would be announced by the management of Bayelsa United who are not happy with his uncivilized and barbaric act.

The match officials for the Bayelsa United Vs Doma FC are:

AYENI from Lagos State, Babayanju from Ondo State, Ojeleye from Ogun State and Kitwuna from Plateau state.

Bayelsa United have garnered five points from five matches with just one point above the relegation water.

Recall that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) had stated that three points will be deducted from any team caught causing chaos in the league.
