Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has rewarded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba FC, with ₦30 million following their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Bendel Insurance in a Matchday 5 fixture at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Governor, who was in attendance for the first time this season, expressed his delight at the team’s resilience after coming from behind twice to secure a hard-fought win in front of their home crowd.

A Five-Goal Thriller in Aba

Bendel Insurance took an early lead in the second minute through Chinedu Nwosu. Enyimba responded with an 18th-minute equalizer from Joseph Abiodun. Nwosu struck again in the 60th minute to restore Insurance’s advantage, but the People’s Elephant hit back swiftly, first through a 65th-minute penalty converted by Kalu Nweke, then through substitute Chidera Michael, who netted the decisive winner in the 69th minute.

Governor Otti Applauds Team Spirit and Announces Financial Reward

Addressing the players in the dressing room after the match, Governor Otti lauded their fighting spirit and announced a cash reward of ₦10 million for each goal scored, bringing the total to ₦30 million.

“This is my first time watching you live this season, and you made me very proud with that performance,” Otti said. “As a token of appreciation, I will reward you with ₦10 million per goal. By Monday, your Chairman will receive ₦30 million for the three goals you scored.”

The announcement sparked celebrations among the players, who sang and cheered in gratitude to the Governor.

Eguma Dedicates Victory to Governor and Late Mother

Enyimba Head Coach Stanley Eguma also expressed his appreciation for Governor Otti’s support and dedicated the win to both the Governor and his recently deceased mother.

“I thank God for today’s win. I dedicate it to His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, for his motivation and for being present to support us,” said Eguma, who joined Enyimba earlier this season. “There’s no greater encouragement than a Governor leaving all his engagements to watch his team play.”

In an emotional moment, the former Rivers United coach revealed that he lost his mother, Mrs. Ruth Eguma, just three days earlier.

“She was a pillar of support, always praying and encouraging me. This victory is for her. I miss her deeply,” he added.

With the result, Enyimba continues its push toward the top of the NPFL standings, with fans hopeful that the Governor’s support will further energize the team’s title ambitions.
