NPFL: Ideye Knocks Enyimba, Wishes Club Survival Amid Relegation Battle

Former Super Eagles star Brown Ideye has criticised the treatment of players by Enyimba International F.C., while expressing hope that the club survives relegation in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The former Super Eagles forward made the remarks on social media while reflecting on his short spell with the Aba-based side after returning to Nigeria from Europe.

Ideye, who once featured for the People’s Elephant, said players in the NPFL must begin to speak up and fight for their rights if the league is to improve.

“NPFL players have to start speaking out and fight for what belongs to them. We all want the NPFL to be better but the players need to play a big part in this. Your career comes first,” Ideye wrote.

He further alleged that some players dismissed by the club are still pursuing cases at FIFA over unpaid entitlements.

“Some of the players they sack are still in FIFA court with the club because they refuse to pay them. Some got injured while playing and needed surgery and what did the club do? 

They refused to pick calls and refused to assist with hospital bills,” he added.

Ideye also compared the situation at Enyimba with that of fellow NPFL side Abia Warriors F.C., suggesting there is a clear difference in how the clubs are run.

“This is one of the big clubs in Nigeria that gets funds from the state government. Take a look at Abia Warriors and take a look at Enyimba,” he said.

The striker further claimed that the club’s struggles stem from poor decisions at the top level.

“I’m not surprised at all. You can’t sign average players and expect world-class performances because you don’t want players that can stand up and ask for accountability. 

Enyimba’s problems are from the top and have to be fixed fast before it’s too late. I pray they stay up this season,” he concluded.

Enyimba are currently battling to avoid relegation as the NPFL season enters its decisive stage.
