NPFL: Katsina United Players Protest Five Months Unpaid Salaries Before Home Defeat

Katsina United players and club officials on Wednesday staged a protest over the non-payment of five months’ salaries ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Bendel Insurance, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The players reportedly demonstrated their frustration moments before kickoff, drawing attention to the prolonged financial hardship they have endured while continuing to honour their fixtures.

“Five months without pay is suicidal, and yet these players are still expected to go out and perform,” a source close to the team said.

Despite the tense atmosphere, Katsina United honoured the fixture but suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Bendel Insurance, compounding their difficult situation both on and off the pitch.

At the time of filing this report, the club management has yet to issue an official statement regarding the unpaid salaries.

The incident has once again highlighted the financial challenges facing some NPFL clubs, with calls growing for stricter enforcement of players’ welfare and contractual obligations.
