Newly appointed Akwa United coach Deji Ayeni has opened up his mission to the champion of the Nigeria Professional Football League, BSNsports.com.ng report



Former Sunshine Stars gaffer was appointed as the manager of the Promise Keepers last week following the resignation of Kennedy Boboye as coach of the club.


" "My coming to Akwa United is a fresh challenge and a new beginning for me as a coach. I have spent one week with my players and I'm happy with the energy and the hard work we have put into the team within this short period. 


"For us to have a successful title defence and also secure one of the continental tickets which are our primary target in the remaining 19 matches, we have to hit the ground running starting with this weekend's game against Rivers United.


"I'm happy with the level of determination I have seen from both the old players and the new ones we have brought in. 


The calibre of players we have are capable of winning games and I'm confident that we will have a positive result against Rivers United on Saturday," he told the club media



The game between Akwa United and Rivers United in a 1-1 draw and the coach is hoping to have the club back to winning ways in the next match.
