NPFL: Remo Stars Back To Winning Ways, As Rivers United Pick Away Win
Sampson Adedeji
Remo Stars returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after staging a late comeback to defeat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 at home on Monday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side came into the encounter on the back of three consecutive losses to Katsina United, Kwara United, and Nasarawa United, but they showed resilience to end their poor run in dramatic fashion.
El-Kanemi Warriors took the lead two minutes before the hour mark through Jonas Emmanuel, silencing the home fans in Ikenne. However, Remo Stars refused to give up and pushed relentlessly for an equalizer.
Their effort paid off when Victor Mbaoma converted from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to level the score. Deep into stoppage time, former Abia Warriors striker Michael Ibe sealed all three points for the hosts with a composed finish.
Meanwhile, Rivers United climbed to fourth position on the NPFL table following a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Kun Khalifat in Owerri. Maclyn Biokpo scored the decisive goal for Finidi George’s men 11 minutes from time.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United continued their solid home form with a narrow 1-0 win against Bendel Insurance. Saka Gafar netted the only goal of the game to hand Plateau United the maximum points.
Insurance, on the other hand, are still winless under new manager Kennedy Boboye, piling pressure on the technical bench as the Benin Arsenal search for stability.
