The Nigeria Premier Football League defending champions Rivers United their unbeaten run in the league this as they defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes 2-1 on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng report.

The game played at the Adokiye Amasiamaka stadium in Port-Harcourt was keenly contested as all the goals were scored in the first half.

Kazie Ezinnaya put Rivers United ahead in the 7th minute through a corner kick from Chiamaka Madu.

Tornadoes were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute and it was duly converted by Waheed Adebayo before Ebube Duru restored Rivers United's lead in the 31st minute.

The result took Rivers United to the top of the table with 7 points from 3 matches.

Rivers United are the only Nigeria team at the CAF Club competition.

Stanley Eguma’s side have been drawn in Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup competition along with Asec Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire, Congo’s Dable Noirs and DC Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Port Harcourt club will start their group stage campaign with a trip to Dable Noirs on February 12.

They will host ASEC Mimosa in their first home match seven days later.
