Sampson Adedeji
Rivers United F.C. returned to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Wednesday following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Barau FC in a rescheduled fixture, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The encounter, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, was decided by a solitary strike from Stephen Manyo, who found the breakthrough to hand the Pride of Rivers maximum points.
The decisive moment came in a tightly contested affair, with both sides battling for control in midfield.
However, Rivers United showed greater cutting edge in the final third, capitalising on their opportunity to secure the slim advantage.
The victory lifts Rivers United back to the top of the NPFL standings with 45 points.
Notably, they still have three outstanding fixtures to play, a factor that could further strengthen their title credentials as the season progresses.
With momentum now on their side, the Port Harcourt-based side will look to consolidate their position when they take on their remaining games in the race for domestic honours.
