NPFL: Rivers United defeat Enyimba, maintain top spot

League leader Rivers United regained its 4 points lead on top of the table with another comfortable win against Enyimba International by 2-0, BSNsports.com.ng can report




Two first half goals from Ishaq Rafiu and Chiamaka Madu ensured Rivers United win over People's Elephant.




The game schedule at the Adoke Amasiamaka Stadium, witnessed the host dominating the possession, as their efforts paid off in the 18th minute when they were rewarded with a spot-kick.




Top scorer Rafiu was brought down in the 18-yard box by the people's elephant captain Austin Oladapo.




Madu made it 2-0 for the host in the 34th minute after the defence of Enyimba collapse and failed to clear their lines.




Victor Mbaoma almost reduced the deficit in the 71st minute but Rivers United goalie Victor Sochima did enough to rescue the situation.




Despite the pressure from the Aba Landlords, the Pride of Rivers was able to secure the full points at regulation time.




The win now increased Rivers United points to 52pts, four more than the closest challenger Plateau United.
