NPFL: Sunshine Stars Suspend Suraju Over Disparaging Remarks

Recently relegated Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars, has suspended midfielder Ibrahim Suraju over disparaging comments he made about the club, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to a club statement, Suraju appeared in a viral video where he was seen making inappropriate remarks about his employers.

In response, the club has initiated an internal investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his conduct.

The club condemned the player's actions, describing them as contrary to the core values of Sunshine Stars—discipline, respect, and professionalism.

“We do not intend to be unnecessarily harsh on any of our hardworking players,” the statement noted, “but we will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from individuals whose actions do not reflect the values and intentions of the Owena Whales.”

Sunshine Stars emphasized that everyone associated with the team is expected to uphold its standards, particularly during challenging times such as these.

The Akure-based side was relegated from the NPFL after a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday.
