NPFL 24: Rivers United Deserve Respect Over Congested Fixtures - Evans Ogenyi
Precious Oham
Chief Coach of Rivers United, Evans Ogenyi has expressed frustration over the congested fixtures for his side in the ongoing 2023/2024 NPFL season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ogenyi, whose side suffered a narrow one-nil loss to Sunshine Stars in Akure said the team deserve respect from the league body having represented the country in the continent.
He, however, noted that they will keep playing with all seriousness describing the fixtures as a price they have to pay.
"It's not been easy but we have been compelled to play. We have no choice but to play in a gap of two to three days. We are condemned to play five matches in 15 days.
"It is a price we have to pay and we are approaching every match with seriousness and determination. This one has come and gone. In the next three days, I will be playing Abia Warriors in Umuahia.
"I want to be careful about the authorities. If they had respected us, there is a way we can be playing pari passu. It has happened before but now they deemed it fit, I can't challenge their authority. But then, Rivers United deserve some respect because Rivers United have wrestled those four slots for the continent. We deserve some respect and kudos. We will keep playing."
Rivers United will next face Abia Warriors in Umuahia as part of their outstanding fixtures on Wednesday before coming up against Niger Tornadoes in Port Harcourt.
