NPFL 24: Shooting Stars' Target Still Realistic, Says Ogunbote

By Precious Oham

Head Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, of Ibadan, Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed optimism that the goal of the team for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is still achievable, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking after the NPFL Matchday 17 tie at Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, on Sunday, with Bayelsa United, Ogunbote expressed happiness that the team was able to end its winless streak after going six matches without a win.

“We have played 16 games so far; we have one outstanding game, and we still have about 22 games to determine that. That’s quite a lot, but I think it is still realistic,” added the coach, who hinted that he would beef up the squad with a few fresh legs during the midseason.

“I think it’s a big relief for the team. The truth be told, having gone through six games without a win, you would definitely expect that the confidence level would have dropped.

“The confidence level dropped, but all we wanted was to come back to winning ways, and we have been able to get that,” said the gaffer.

The former Rangers International and Sunshine Stars’ tactician explained why the team struggled against the visitors in Sunday’s game.

“Like I said, we have played six games without a win; psychologically, everybody would have been down, and the confidence level would have dropped.

“We were just trying to see how we could manage the situation; the good thing was that we had a goal and would have gotten the second despite the fact that we didn’t do too well like we used to do."
