NPFL 25: Megwo Condemns Kwara United To Defeat Yet Again

Sunday Megwo was the nemesis of Kwara United Football, yet again, as his second half goal earned Abia Warriors of Umuahia, a deserved 1-0 victory in the re-scheduled Matchday 6 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League encounter played at the Umuahia Township Stadium, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The match which was billed to be played on Saturday, 12th October 2024, but it was moved to the next day following a heavy downpour that rendered the pitch unplayable.

The Match Commissioner, Edema Fuludu, after consulting with the match officials, the league organisers and officials of the two clubs, re-scheduled the match to Sunday, 13th October 2024 with 8am as kickoff time.

Abia Warriors gaffer, Imama Amapakabo made only one change to the side that lost to Rangers at Enugu, last time out with Daniel Ekpo starting ahead of fellow left footer, Ayodele Ezekiel.

The game lived up to expectation as it was entertaining, intriguing and breathtaking.

Umu Chineke had a slow start, and Kwara United, tutored by Abia Warriors former Assistant Coach, Tunde Sani, took the game to the home side with Shola Abdulraheem orchestrating play from the midfield. 

Despite their early dominance, they failed to get a clear caught chance at goal, and the home side gradually grew into the game; Sunday Megwo giving the visitors' backline a run for their money.

Goalless it ended in the first half as the spectators that thronged the stadium were truly entertained. 

The second period saw the Pride of Abia taking the game to the visitors. It was attack after attack as the visitors sat back to soak the pressure.

In the 62nd minute, Amapakabo replaced Paul Sampson and Daniel Ekpo with the duo of Emmanuel Onu and Ayodele Ezekiel, and it was the latter that made the assist for the goal twelve minutes later.

A freekick deep in Kwara United's half was squared beautifully by Ayodele Ezekiel, and Sunday Megwo rose the highest to head home for Abia Warriors, and his second of the season.

It was Megwo's second consecutive goal against Kwara United in two successive seasons.
