NPFL 25: Umar Abdullahi Worried Over Akwa United Goals Profligacy
Precious Oham
Akwa United Assistant Coach Umar Abdullahi said he is worried over his team's inability to convert chances, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Promise Keepers were held to a goalless draw by Rangers in a match-day 8 NPFL clash.
The Promise Keepers have managed just one win, three draws, and four losses in their opening eight matches of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League season, and Abdullahi observed that poor finishing is the only challenge the team is facing.
"It is painful that the outcome of this game is not how we planned it. We were aiming to play and win this match but it ended goalless.
"Despite the fact that we played well and dominated the game, we were not able to make good use of our chances and that is why we are disappointed.
"A critical look at our team will show that we are making serious progress and we are playing well at the same time. If a team plays well, they will create chances, and that is what we did, but our major challenge was the inability of the players to convert our many chances.
"We have now played two matches without a goal, and that is not good enough, all we need to do is to keep working on the goal-scoring ability of the boys to ensure anytime we play, goals can come from anyone on the pitch because we are not a bad team. I have confidence in this team and we are committed to making a mark this season."
Akwa United are 18th on the log with six points from eight games and will next face Shooting Stars in Ibadan this weekend on match day 9.
