Match Day 5 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) produced drama and excitement across the country, with Nasarawa United stealing the spotlight after a stunning 2-1 victory over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa, while Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) finally registered their first win of the season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa United were expected to continue their fine home form but were undone by a spirited Nasarawa United side.

Mustapha Jawad gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute, but the Solid Miners responded swiftly through Ekeson Okorie, who equalised just before halftime.

Collins Onovuke then sealed all three points for the visitors in the 88th minute, silencing the home crowd and giving Nasarawa their second win of the campaign.

In Minna, Niger Tornadoes produced an attacking masterclass to overpower Ikorodu City 4-2.

Ismail Sarki opened the scoring as early as the second minute, while Abba Khalid and Abdulaziz Dalhatu extended the lead with quick-fire goals in the 14th and 16th minutes.

Ikorodu City pulled one back through Musa Maliq shortly after the restart, but Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai restored Tornadoes’ cushion in the 65th minute.

Tosin Oyedokun’s 73rd-minute penalty proved a mere consolation for the visitors.

At the Enyimba International Stadium, the People’s Elephant secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against Bendel Insurance.

Chinedu Nwosu stunned the home side with a third-minute strike, but Abiodun Joseph restored parity in the 18th minute.

Wisdom Udom put Insurance ahead again in the 60th minute, only for Kalu Nweke to level from the spot six minutes later.

Chidera Michael’s composed finish in the 70th minute ensured Enyimba walked away with maximum points.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars finally claimed their first win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Kun Khalifat.

Gali Falke set the tone with a seventh-minute opener before Sodiq Ibrahim doubled the advantage three minutes after the break.

Henry Ezeonye’s 76th-minute strike for the visitors made for a nervy ending, but 3SC held firm to record a morale-boosting victory.

El-Kanemi Warriors earned a slim 1-0 win over Wolves in Maiduguri thanks to Muktar Ismail’s 19th-minute goal.

The Desert Warriors put in a disciplined display to protect their lead and secure all three points in front of their home supporters.

Match Day 5 results underscored the competitive nature of the NPFL, with surprises and late drama keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

All eyes will now shift to Match Day 6 as teams aim to build momentum early in the season.
