NPFL Refutes Reports of Player Stabbing in Katsina, Confirms Disciplinary Action Against Club

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has clarified reports surrounding the disruption of the Matchday 12 fixture between Katsina United and Barau FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, dismissing claims that a player was stabbed during the encounter, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement released on Sunday, the league body described circulating reports alleging that Barau FC’s Abraham Nana had his throat slit during the second half of the match as “utterly false.”

According to the NPFL, the player sustained an injury after being struck by an object thrown from the stands. Medical staff attended to him on the pitch, leading to a brief suspension of play before the game resumed.

The league further explained that its Situation Room, which maintains real-time communication with match commissioners across venues, was in constant contact with officials during the incident to verify the facts.

Following an internal review of official match reports from the referee and match commissioner, the NPFL confirmed that Katsina United have been sanctioned for breaches related to crowd control and security lapses.

“The NPFL will continue to uphold league regulations to ensure fair competition in a safe and secure environment,” the statement read. “We wish to reassure the public and all stakeholders of their safety at league venues through the robust control measures in place.”
