NPFL:Rivio, Clement Score As Sporting Lagos Sink Gombe United

It was a remarkable day for Lagosians as Sporting Lagos began its campaign of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a stunning 2-0 victory over Gombe United, on Monday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The encounter which took centre stage, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, with thousands of football fans tuned up to witness Sporting Lagos first game in the top flight. 

The host took the lead through Rivio Ayemwenre, who's left unmarked beautifully heads Sporting Lagos In front, thanks to Jonathan Alukwu's sumptuous delivery to slotted it home, in the 42nd minute as they went into the half time break with a goal lead. 

In the second half, the Paul Offor led side doubled their lead 2-0, in the 71st minutes, when Nantuan Clement scored, after he benefited from Junior Lokosa's missed over-head kick to score from close range home.

It proved to be a comfortable home victory for the NPFL new comers as they began their first campaign in the Nigerian top-flight league for the first time in the club history. 

Sporting Lagos will face a tough task, in Matchday 2, when they take on Akwa United, on Sunday, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
